Kicad & footprints
I downloaded the basic library of components and ended up with a ".lib" and ".mod" file. Kicad is able to see and use the lib file for schematics but complains that there is no "footprint". What do I need to do?

Could you let us know which exact part you downloaded and we can investigate it?

Do you mean Octopart's Common Parts Library? Did you download them through the batch export? If so, that is still undergoing testing.
